Guidelines
Guided research must:
- Be conducted under the guidance of a UMD faculty member
- Represent a time commitment of minimum 45 hours (equivalent to the hours in a 3-credit class)
- Contribute to your understanding of knowledge creation and methodology by engaging you, in some manner, in the process of creating knowledge.
- NOT be part of a requirement for a course
Guided research can be:
- Completed under the auspices of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
- Paid or unpaid
- Research conducted to fulfill a departmental honors program requirements
- Activities conducted as part of a research team
- Outside your primary field of study (major or minor)
