Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are UH courses harder than non-honors courses?
A: UH courses are not designed to be harder than other courses; they are designed to be more engaging. You will work hard in UH courses, but that work will be in a small class with greater opportunity to participate in the coursework and apply it outside of the classroom.
Q: Do I have to live in the UH dorm?
A: Living in the UH dorm is voluntary. Most students choose to live on the UH floor and find it is a great opportunity to build relationships with other students who share their academic values.
Q: Are the required UH courses in addition to my regular graduation requirements?
A: All UH courses fulfill UMD liberal education requirements. Thus, when you take a UH course, it will fulfill both your liberal education and UH requirements.
Q: Do UH students get priority registration?
A: Yes, all UH students get priority registration beginning spring term of their freshman year. Incoming freshmen registering for fall courses will do so in the regular manner during Advisement & Registration days.
Q: Is there a fee to participate in UH?
A: There is no cost to participate. In fact, participating in UH provides free access to many valuable opportunities, including the UH Study Abroad Scholarship (up to $5000).
