Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are UH courses harder than non-honors courses?
A: UH courses are not designed to be harder than other courses; they are designed to be more engaging. You will work hard in UH courses, but that work will be in a small class with greater opportunity to actively participate in the coursework.
Q: Do I have to live in the UH Living Learning Community (UHLLC)?
A: No. Joining the UHLLC is voluntary. Just over half of our students choose to live there. The UHLLC is a rare opportunity to build relationships with students who share your academic values, not a requirement.
Q: Do I have to take extra courses?
A: No. UH courses also fulfill UMD general liberal education requirements. When you take a UH course it can replace another liberal education class you would have to take anyway.
Q: Do UH students get priority registration?
A: Yes, all UH students get priority registration beginning spring term of their freshman year. Incoming freshmen registering for fall courses will do so in the regular manner during Advisement & Registration days.
Q: Is there a fee to participate in UH?
A: There is no cost to participate. In fact, participating in UH provides free access to many valuable opportunities including the UH Study Abroad Scholarship.
